Dr Bolu Eso
Born in 1995 and raised in Kent, Bolu’s dream of becoming a Veterinary Surgeon began at the age of 5 when he discovered the enigmatic Steve Irwin on the TV. Inspired by nature documentaries and an abundance of encyclopaedia’s, coupled with an enthusiasm for helping others and his love of animals, Bolu set himself ambitious goals from an early age – keeping them pinned to his wall throughout his childhood.
A dedicated all-round student, Bolu became Joint Deputy Head Boy at his Grammar school, represented his school in football and rugby, completed his Bronze and Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award, successfully climbed Mount Everest, gained experience at his local Vets and animal sanctuaries and volunteered for charity projects abroad working alongside the local communities and Village Vet hospitals…all before the age of 18!!
All these achievements led to his dream coming true when he was accepted to study Veterinary Medicine at the University of Veterinary Medicine in Budapest. This married well with his lust for travelling as, for his 6 years of learning overseas, he not only immersed himself in the Hungarian culture and language but took advantage of being in Europe and travelled ‘til his heart’s content.
Upon graduating in 2019 with Honours and a Doctorate in “Veterinary Medicine and Intercalated Master of Science”, Bolu joined a Veterinary Practice back in rural Kent, with his first day seeing him thrown in the deep end with operations, house visits and busy consults…and he hasn’t looked back since. Bolu has recently completed his qualifications towards specialising in dentistry receiving a general practitioner certificate in dentistry and oral surgery and is now Dr Bolu Eso DVM MRCVS GP CertDenOS !
It was at this time, Bolu was approached to become the on-screen vet for the new BBC1 primetime series Pooch Perfect with Sheridan Smith — caring for the contestants’ dogs while sharing accessible animal health advice. Drawn by the adventure, he joined the show in January 2021, combining his passion for animal welfare with educating and entertaining the nation on TV. The TV adventure continued with Bolu fronting the hit Channel 4 series Furbabies as well as regular appearances on Blue Peter, Rip Off Britain (BBC1) and BBC Radio’s Make A Difference show.
Most recently, it has been announced that Bolu will be hosting Joy of Pets for ITV alongside Gaby Roslin, as well as continuing his role as resident Vet on Love Your Weekend with Alan Titchmarsh (ITV). He is also the Founder of Litter Sense as well as Brand Ambassador for the likes of Butternut Box, Knorr, GoodWoof, Sainsburys Bank Pet Insurance and Felix.
Alongside his Veterinary Practice and TV career, Bolu is a keen advocate for social responsibility and enjoys working with charities and friends to make bigger impacts in smaller communities. He is passionate about mental health in his Profession and is always studying ways to make mental health a priority for those within his vocation. In 2025 Bolu won a “30 under 30” Award at the prestigious London Vet Show in recognition to his dedication to his industry.
